Her maternal grandparents, James WILEY and Miss ABERCROMBIE, were married in Ireland and emigrated to America prior to the Revolutionary War, locating first in Pennsylvania, and thence removing to what was then known as McConnell's Station, Ky. James WILEY was subsequently killed by Indians while acting as a guide to a troop of soldiers.

To this union seven children were born, only two of whom, Thomas Madison and Theodore Decatur grew to man's estate. On the 10th of Nov. 1859, she was again married to Ira Thorton NELSON, a native of Virginia, who came to this state in 1836 and located at New Hope, Lincoln County, where he died in 1889, aged 92 years. Since that time she has lived with her sons- for the last three and one half years at Farmington.
