Since moving to the new web server on MOGENWEB.ORG, the FreeFind search engine is the only one working. Other options may be available in the future. Some of the searches listed below may work while some may not. Many of the Missouri USGenWeb sites have moved from Rootsweb.

More Info...More Options...

Currently, most of the Lincoln County data resides on our Lincoln County site at (www.rootsweb.com/~molincol) and will be retrieved by using Option 1.  However, other pertinent data may also reside in one or more other USGenWeb databases on another RootsWeb server, i.e., in the archives, on the GenConnect system, in mail list notes, or on someone's  RootsWeb homepage.   Since, one search engine won't retrieve all data everywhere, the options below present some other searches you may want to try.

[PLEASE NOTE: This page is a work in progress. As such, the options listed are those currently known by the page author, and the examples shown are but a sampling of possibilities.  Other options are being added to the list and examples added and/or modified almost daily.]

Option 1:  Search all pages on the Lincoln County site.  (same option as top of page)
Searches all pages actually ON the Lincoln County USGenWeb/MOGenweb site (www.rootsweb.com/~molincol), use this option. (Includes Queries up to March 30, 1999. Does NOT include GenConnect Queries or files submitted to the Lincoln County Archives.)  This option will retrieve most Lincoln County data and will currently produce your most effective search results.

Option 2:  Search Lincoln County GenConnect Queries.
Searches all GenConnect entries for Lincoln County.  (We currently have only the Query Board.)  To search Queries posted on or after March 30, 1999, use this option. Does NOT include Queries posted before that date. Several search choices available. Updated weekly, on Mondays.

Option 3:  Search Lincoln County mail list notes
Searches notes submitted to the Lincoln County Mail List "MOLINCOL-L" or "MOLINCOL-D".

Option 4:  Search the USGenWeb Archives
Searches the USGenWeb Archives for information on Lincoln County persons, either on the Lincoln County Archive site, or any other state or county site where it may reside.

Option 5:  Search all indexed RootsWeb sites for data on people with Lincoln County connections.

Option 6:  Search the RootsWeb Surname List.
Searches the RootsWeb Surname List (RSL).  The RSL only lists researchers, not queries, not data, etc. Enter surnames you are researching, then see who else is working on the same lines  in the same locality you are.   (You may see contacts here who have registered Lincoln County surnames here, but have never registered them on our Lincoln County Surname Page.)

Option 7:  Surname search on all GenConnect country-wide or globally.

Option 8:  Master search on all registered RootsWeb sites.
GenSeeker searches all sites on RootsWeb servers that are registered with the search engine. Includes county and homepages sites.

Option 9:  Use the search tools at RootsWeb Surname Resource.
A new way to navigate RootsWeb's surname offerings.

Option 1:   Search all pages on the Lincoln County site

This search will include ALL Lincoln County pages that actually reside at the Lincoln County site (www.rootsweb.com/~molincol) and are maintained by the county coordinator, including Queries that were posted up to, and including, March 30, 1999.

You can use the search engine form below to search the entire Lincoln Co. MO USGenWeb / MOGenWeb Project site (www.rootsweb.com/~molincol) for any word or combination of words. Search for surnames, locations etc. Pages are reindexed approx. every 3 days.

Examples Option 1 - Using Lincoln County search engine:

NOTE:  Searches are not case-sensitive -
all caps or all lower case or mixed case is OK.

Match = ALL
Search = JAMESON JAMERSON JAMISON

This will find pages where both JAMESON and JAMERSON and JAMISON appear.

Match = ANY
Search = JAMESON JAMERSON JAMISON JAMIESON

This will find pages where either JAMESON or JAMERSON or JAMISON or JAMIESON appear.

Match = BOOLEAN
Search = JAMISON not John

This will find pages where JAMISON appears and John does not.

Format = LONG
Will display search results with title and a few lines of text from the page -- usually shows the name and context of use.

Format = SHORT
Will display search results with title only.

OPTION 1 ~ SEARCH ENGINE FORM
Use this form to search all Lincoln County pages.

Match: Format:
Search:

Option 2:   Search GenConnect Queries posted since March 30, 1999.

Lincoln County Queries posted since March 30, 1999 do not reside in the actual Lincoln County pages database.  To search them, use one of the following choices for Option 2.

GenConnect Index for all messages:
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Lincoln

Surname Index page generated from surnames entered on Query Page:
http://surhelp-bin.rootsweb.com/surindx.pl?gc=/USA/Mo/Lincoln

Search Engine for surnames entered on Query Page (Surname Helper):
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/surhelp-bin/srchsite.pl?gc=/USA/Mo/Lincoln
As it pertains to GenConnect, the data comes from the messages on the GenConnect boards. Surname Helper indexes the surnames contained in the surname field of each and every post, and then stores a list of which queries the surnames belong to so that you can look up a surname and get hotlinks to the queries themselves.

Option 3: Search the archive of messages for MOLINCOL Mailing List for 1998 and/or 1999.
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=molincol

This option searches all mail notes that were posted to the Lincoln County mail list. Searches one year at a time, for either 1998 or 1999.

Examples Option 3:
  • Keithley
  • Lycurgus and Bell
  • (Mary and Jones) or (Jackson and County)

Option 4:  Search the USGenWeb Archives

URL for the Table of Contents:  http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/lincoln/lincoln.htm
This is the HTML page with a listing of all the material in the USGenWeb Archives for Lincoln County, Missouri.  From here, you can select to read specific documents in text format.

URL for the Search Engine:
  http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.htm
Searches one state at a time, so you must select a state in which to search.  The page has search tips on how to configure your search query to get the type of results you want.  Read the search tips and look at the examples on the page. Use enough "operators" to turn up the type of records you want.

Example Option 4 - search for Lincoln County persons:
  • Query = jameson AND "lincoln co*" (with quotes) retrieves documents in which the words Jameson and Lincoln County (or Lincoln Co.) both appear on the same page.

This is only one example.  There are many more ways to state your query and use this search engine.  Be sure to read the search tips and look at the examples on the page of the search engine URL.

Option 5:  Search data in all indexed sites on RootsWeb
URL for the search engine:
  http://seeker.rootsweb.com/search.html

Configure your query statement the same as the examples in Option 1 above. (Our Lincoln County search engine uses a county "subset" of this larger "United-States-wide" database.)  To limit your search to data pertaining to Lincoln County, include the word "LINCOLN" and "MISSOURI" in your search statement.

Examples for using RootsWeb search engine:

NOTE:  Searches are not case-sensitive -
all caps or all lower case or mixed case is OK.

Match = ALL
Search = JAMESON JAMERSON JAMISON LINCOLN COUNTY MISSOURI

This will find pages where JAMESON and JAMERSON and JAMISON and LINCOLN and COUNTY and MISSOURI all appear on the same page.
This is a very limiting search and would not retrieve each occurrence you might want.
The most effective approach for this search would be to make THREE separate searches configured:
1. Search = JAMESON LINCOLN MISSOURI
2. Search = JAMERSON LINCOLN MISSOURI
3. Search = JAMISON LINCOLN MISSOURI

Match = ANY
Search = JAMESON JAMERSON JAMISON JAMIESON
LINCOLN COUNTY MISSOURI
This will find pages where JAMESON or JAMERSON or JAMISON or JAMIESON or LINCOLN or COUNTY or MISSOURI appear. This is too broad of a search and would be a very ineffective because it would retrieve ALL documents (as many as 56,197) where any occurrence of any one of the words appeared.

Match = BOOLEAN
Search = JAMISON not John

This will find pages where JAMISON appears and John does not.

Format = LONG
Will display search results with title and a few lines of text from the page -- usually shows the name and context of use.

Format = SHORT
Will display search results with title only.

Option 6:  Search the RootsWeb Surname List or RSL.
http://rsl.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/rslsql.cgi

These are now on the GenConnect system.  You have to register your surnames to get on the surname list. (Surnames you've entered in the "surname field" on the Lincoln County Queries Page are automatically added to this list.) The RSL, or RootsWeb Surname List, now contains more than half a million surnames submitted by over 60,000 Internet genealogists. This probably makes it the largest cooperative genealogical effort on the net, in terms of participation.

Option 7: Search GenConnect All Entries
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi?search

Search an entire country or the entire world for your surnames. If any queries containing your surname exist, they will be listed by Country, State, then County order. Retrieves information from all GenConnect entries all over the world.  This search engine only searches queries in the GenConnect System. It does not search those counties or states not online with this system. Indexed weekly.

NOTE:  As near as I can determine, it appears pages may be indexed by GenSeeker about once a month.  It takes more recent entries a while before they appear in search results.  Pages are indexed by FreeFind more frequently and may turn up a greater number of matches.
