I would very much appreciate any information about my ancestors Simon Ephraim LEWIS and Mary Catherine HARDING. Simon was born in Pilsen, Bohemia, in 1805, and immigrated to the U.S. sometime in the early 19th century. Mary Catherine HARDING was born in Franklin, TN, on March 9, 1818. Mary and Simon were married, according to the only information we have, in Troy, MO on June 17, 1935. Simon may have been of Jewish extraction but we are not aware of their church affiliation at the time of marriage. The couple apparently left for Potosi, Wisconsin a year or two after the wedding, and did not return to Lincoln County thereafter.

We have so far hit a dead end on immigration, ship or naturalization records so a record of the marriage would be particularly important to tracing both ancestors back. Would appreciate your posting this and passing on any information that you may have---or suggested civil or
church records which I could access directly.

Patty (Jamerson) Archer  -- 5 August 1998
I have KOESTER (KOSTER) Baptismal Records, Marriage Records, and one Death Record from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at Millwood. I was able to go through some of their record books a few years back and copied all references to the KOESTER (KOSTER) surname, as my great grandmother was a Koester. Her name was SARAH FRANCES KOESTER. She married DANIEL CLUNY in November of 1882. Sarah's father was WILHELM KOSTER and her mother was MARY ANN (POLLY) KINION (daughter of William Riley Kinion and Rachel Rebecca Cox). I would be happy to pass on the information to any KOESTER (KOSTER) researchers. Maybe it will help with your research. All records were copied verbatim. I have not found any connection between my Wilhelm KOSTER and the other Koster's in the area, but I'm sure they must've been cousins, and he may have had a brother that lived in the area. He was born in Hanover, Germany about 1813. He was said to have had at least seven brothers. He left Germany as a young man to avoid being thrown into the local army. He was a cabinetmaker by trade.  The children of these other KOSTER cousins were at the marriages and births of my KOESTER's and their children. They must've been related. Any info on the KOESTER (KOSTER) families would be appreciated.

Matt Todd Leadfoot10@aol.com -- July 26, 1998
I am looking for information about the death of Dr. Benjamin F. TODD.  Benjamin F. TODD married Ellen Boucher CARR in 1845. They had these children:
Overton Carr, Mary Ora, Mariah Winston, Laura, Benjamin F., and Sterling Price TODD.
An examination of Lincoln County probate records suggests that he died between March and October of 1862 . I have found three versions of what happened to him. Here they are:
1.) History of Lincoln County, Published 1888, pages 404 & 405, in an article about local Civil War Casualties-Dr. Benjamin TODD, living at his home on the Highland Prairie, about ten miles from Troy, who was a Southern sympathizer, though a quiet citizen, was killed at or near his home by a Federal scout.
2.) A CARR family record says he was killed by bushwackers.
3.) A story passed down through the TODD family says a discussion with some Union troops about some blacks on his property escalated in to an argument and the troops shot him dead in front of his house and family.
I have been told there were not any newspapers published in Lincoln County at this time. Can anyone help me find out what happened, when it happened, and where he is buried?

I am looking for the family of William LAMBETH or LAMBIRTH or LAMBATH. I find in Lincoln Co MO 1840 census, p 232, the name of William LAMBERT, age 40-50, whom I would like to now more about. My ancestor is David LAMBETH, b ca 1793, son of William LAMBETH "of Virginia" who "moved to Missouri".  David, his brother William Jr., and William Sr. were in Posey Co IN in 1830.  David died there ca 1838 but his brother and father "moved on". The spelling of this surname is so varied, depending, I'm sure, on the public official who did the writing. According to that 1830 census, William Sr was b between 1760 & 1770 and William Jr between 1800 & 1810.   I will appreciate any help on this family.

I have a photo album that is over 100 yrs old that I would like to return to the righful family. Provided I can find them. In the album behind a picture was a will written by a Louise Dudley of Troy, Missour 1909. She had a brother named John and I think by the handwriting Ward and a sister Martha. John moved to McMinnville OR and had two daughters Bernice and Clara. Martha had two daughters Carrie Cooley and Osa Geiger and possibly a step- daughter Clara Farmer-Shafer. There was also a nephew listed by the name of Rufus(hard to tell though the handwriting). There was also a marriage certificate copied in 1952 of a marriage of Clara Farmer to a J.L. Shafer. And a niece was mentioned by the name of either Lavern or Lorvernia Dudley. Any information you could provide on these names would be helpful. Thank you Mo

We are looking for info about Nick MILDENSTEIN, his first wife, Adaline WOODCOCK, and their children. Adeline was a half sister to my grandmother, America Allison Calvin. Adeline and America Allison were daughters of America Martin who first married James Yancey, then Robert Allison and then Woodcock. Adeline Woodcock was born in 1856, married Nick Mildenstein in 1875, lived at Foley, died in 1886 and was buried at Elsberry. Goodspeeds History of Lincoln County, MO, states that "The large flouring mill in the south end of the town was the original Burr Oak Valley Mills, brought to Foley in 1880 by Messrs Mildenstein and Anderson." We think that this was Nick Mildenstein. Adeline apparently had two children, the oldest named Dora. Any info about this family would be greatly appreciated. Wayne Calvin Patterson

Dear researcher, My 2nd gr-grandmother kept a daily diary from Jan. 1, 1875 to March 1884 (with periodic skips) while the family lived in Troy (3 miles West of Troy at Hawk Point). The family moved from Minneapolis and located in Troy about 1871. I believe they located here because of other family that lived in Mexico, Mo., and an aunt that lived in nearby Warrenton. I have a transcribed version of the diary with the following surnames as mentioned. There may be some genealogical info however, most of the diary dwells on the families activity and interaction as a farm comm- unity with their neighbors. SLAVEN - BARLEY - WALES - BRITTONS - COX - COLLISH - BARRETT - SINGLETON - RUGG - BARTLOW -   COISAK - EAST - MENDENHALL - MOORE - CROPPER - GRIFFIN - DOUGLAS - BARRETT - KENNEDY'S STORE - COOSE - STEWART - RICE - SEDLAK - STEMFRANIC - GRIPPIN - MARTINEK - MARTIN - THOMSON - UPSON - CLAIR - GORDON - JENNINGS - DARELAR - POWELL - PARKER - WISHLOR -  COLTON CHURCH - BUSH - SMITH - THORNTON - THORNKILL(THORNHILL) - BLEDNOR - HILER -   JENKINS - DR. HOONTZ - CAPT. KOON - DAVIS - MCCLELLAND - SAGER - GIBSON - HERRELL -   DUNCAN - HAMMOND - WELTIE - ELMORE - WITHROW - HOLCOMB - HARDING - HOWELL - STEFANEK- STEEL - CANNON - BROWN - BRANSTEELE - SELLECK - WILEY - RANDALL - RAMBLES - ELKIN - DILLER-OVERMAN-RIKARD-ROBINSON-NICKELS-BRINDLER

It is impossible to know if these spellings, and or pronunciations are correct. Emma Wales was born in 1833 Indiana and moved to Minn. circa 1852 where she met and married William Harrison Bartlow in 1855. Two of her brothers John S. Wales and George Newton Wales married two sisters named Gant who's families were pioneers in Audrain Co., Mo. After 1884 Emma and family moved to St. Louis. After 1903 the family moved to Ohio, where Emma and William are buried. The diary repeats some of the surnames repeated, and mentions some only once. The area where they lived were mostly Czech. immigrants who purchased the land.
I will be happy to answer any queries that may pertain.

I am seeking information on GORDON C. JENNINGS. The only information that we have is that he married Catherine Overton Avery MCCUTCHEON in Lincoln County in 1820. Four children, Samuel, Abigail, Catherine and Joseph we all born in Missouri prior to their emigration to Texas in 1833. At this date, the only information that we have is the marriage date and location, the fact that the children were born in Missouri, and that years later his daughter Catherine stated that Gordon had been born in Conn.
