            Jessie Shepard WITHERS was born in Palmyra, Mo., July 5, 1894, the daughter of John and Belle Mims LAMKIN HITCH. She passed away at her home in Moscow Mills, Mo., Sunday, February 1, 1976.  She was 81 years, 6 months and 26 days of age.

            On March 25, 1922, she was united in marriage to Clifton E. WITHERS.   They became the parents of two sons.  Mr. WITHERS passed away on November 24, 1952.  Others who preceded her in death were her parents and one sister, Georgia MADDEN.

            She is survived by her sons: John S. WITHERS and his wife, Cara Pearl, of St. Louis, Mo., and Clifton E. WITHERS, Jr. and his wife, Kate, of Ballwin, Mo., one granddaughter, Kimberly WITHERS of Ballwin, one sister, Mrs. Lucy SMITH of Karnes City, Texas, one brother-in-law, John MADDEN, other relatives and many friends.

            Mrs. WITHERS received her formal education in the schools of Marion County, Mo., and from the Kirksville State Teachers’ College.  She taught three years in the Marion County Schools, and taught Home Economics in the Brookfield, Mo., High School.  She retired from the Lincoln County R-III School District in 1963 after 13 years in that district.

            She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Moscow Mills and attended church regularly.

            Funeral services for Mrs. WITHERS were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. James Flanagan, Tuesday morning, February 3, 1976, from the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy.  Mrs. Russell Stewart was the organist.

            Burial was beside her husband in the Grandview Cemetery, Hannibal, Mo.   Casket bearers were Wesley DEPPING, C.O. ANDERSON, David HUMPHREY, John HUMPHREY, Ernie PEITZMAN and Charles GINGRICH.
