John Wallace Wilson

Lincoln County lost one of it's best citizens last week when John Wallace WILSON died. The news of his death will come as a shock to numerous friends of Lincoln County and the adjacent counties. His wife and two children were at his bedside....... Deceased was a native of Lincoln County and was the son of the late Alexander and Eliza WILSON and was born June 16, 1828. His wife Isabel, who survives him, and to whom he was married Nov. 13, 1856, was a daughter of Joseph CRENSHAW. Two grown children, Wallace WILSON and Mrs. Susie B. HALL also survive him. Another child the first of their union, Alexander, died when about 5 years of age. .........In '49 he crossed the plains in company with the late Walton PERKINS and spent some time in California. Mr. WILSON took no active part in the CIVIL WAR, although he was a southern sympathizer.

He was a successful farmer, a careful financier, a stable citizen and a kindly and courageous man...

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. L. Rutledge at the farm near Troy, Saturday afternoon. Many sorrowing friends, neighbors and relatives were present to pay the last sad tribute. The interment was with Masonic honors. To the strickened family we extend condolence.

[Transcriber's note: sounds like he was buried on the homeplace. -j. g.]
