Obituary for Mattie F. Welch (d1918)
Uncited clipping from the Reynolds/Welch family collection.

Mattie F. WELCH, wife of the editor of this paper, died at her home in Silex at 1:53 a. m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 1918, of tuberculosis, aged 34 years, 4 months and 27 days. She leaves, besides her husband, three children—Ralph eleven years, Vera Ruth 9, and William 4; also her mother, Mrs. Sarah COX, one sister and three brothers, besides many other relatives. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and her death, while expected for some time, came as a great shock to the family and relatives. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church at one p. m. Monday, by Rev. J. A. HUGHES, after which the body was taken to Troy on the afternoon train and laid to rest in the city cemetery. An appropriate obituary will appear in our next issue.

[Contributor’s note: Mattie’s full name was Martha Frances COX WELCH. She was the wife of James William WELCH, editor of The Silex Index newspaper.]
