Obituary for Otto J. Weitkamp (1891-1971)

Otto J. WEITKAMP was born Nov. 12, 1891,at Moscow Mills, Missouri.

During World War I he served in the Army in France. After the war he married Ida Sophia MAHNKE on June 28, 1921. This marriage was blessed with three daughters.

The family moved to Arcadia, Iowa, where he became a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mo. Synod. Later the family moved to Coon Rapids where he served as a rural mail carrier for 35 years. It was at this time he became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mo. Synod, where he served as an officer of the church for many years.

For the last 13 years he lived on the family farm near Arcadia with his nephew, Edward KOCH.

Prior to his death he was a resident of the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, and had been hospitalized several times. He was called to his eternal rest on Dec. 9, 1971 at the age of 80 years.

His wife preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Paul (Ethel) CARPENTER; Mrs. Edward (Ruth) STENSTROM; Mrs. Bruce (Marilyn) CLAXTON; one sister, Elizabeth of St. Louis, Mo.; 6 grandchildren: James CARPENTER, Carol JACOBSEN, Craig and Jeffery STENSTROM, Brett CLAXTON, Jennifer CLAXTON; a half-sister, Alma KARRENBROCK and two half-brothers, Edward and Albert KARRENBROCK.

He was affiliated with the American Legion and the Carroll Rural Mail Carriers Association.

He was laid to rest in Arcadia Cemetery.
