Obituary for Clarence August Weitkamp (1902-1984)

Clarence August WEITKAMP was born on the family farm near Troy, September 23, 1902, the son of George and Anna Marie WEITKAMP. He passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Tuesday, December 18, 1984. He was 82 years, 2 months and 25 days of age.

On February 16, 1927 he was united in marriage to Miss Viola Pearl IRWIN with whom he shared 51 years of married life. Mr. and Mrs. WEITKAMP lived the majority of their life on the family farm near Troy, and she preceded her husband in death on January 6, 1979.

Mr. WEITKAMP has also been preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Ollie WEITKAMP and Hulda WEITKAMP; his brother Marvin WEITKAMP; and his granddaughter, Donna K. WEITKAMP.

He is survived by his children: George H. WEITKAMP and Anna Marie CREECH of Troy; his grand-daughter, Nancy Ann JONES and her husband of Wentzville; a daughter-in-law, Virginia (REESE) WEITKAMP of Troy; a son-in-law, Glenn E. CREECH of Troy; two sisters: Mary WEITKAMP and Ida WEITKAMP of Troy; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mamie WEITKAMP of Troy; one uncle Albert KARRENBROCK and his wife, Annie, of Moscow Mills; one aunt, Miss Alma KARRENBROCK of Moscow Mills; other relatives and many friends.

Mr. WEITKAMP was confirmed in the Frieden’s United Church of Christ, Moscow Mills on April 6, 1917. His memory verse was Psalm 143:10. "Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God! Let they good spirit lead me on a level path!"

Mr. WEITKAMP became a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Troy, on April 2, 1920. He taught Sunday School in the old church building on Mound Street, and when he was a young man helped dig the basement and build the new church building located on South Main Street. Later in his life, he helped build the church parsonage. Mr. WEITKAMP was a 64 year member of Zion United Church of Christ.

In addition to his participation in the life of the church, Mr. WEITKAMP also participated in the Lincoln County Farm Bureau.

Mr. WEITKAMP lived a quiet and active life on the farm where he was born. He was courteous and friendly to both friends and neighbors. He participated in active farming up until his hospitalization; he died quietly in his sleep.

Funeral service were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 1984 from the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was his pastor, the Rev. Robert F. Hicks. Mrs. Marguerite Schemmer was the organist.

Interment was in the Troy Evangelical and Reformed Cemetery. Casketbearers were, Alfred KUDA, Eddie B. HARDY, Raymond FIETH, Oscar MUENSTERMANN, Louis HEITMAN and Elmer SCHULTE.

Visitation was at the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy.
