Obituary for Herbert Walter Twellman (1918-1975)

Herbert Walter TWELLMAN was born September 16, 1918 in the Sugar Grove Community of Lincoln County, Mo., the son of Frederick and Helen BEHRENS TWELLMAN. He passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital in Troy, Mo., early Sunday morning, November 16, 1975. He was 57 years and 2 months of age.

He attended Sugar Grove Elementary School and graduated from Buchanan High School in Troy. On November 19, 1941, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He served until August 26, 1945 when he received an honorable discharge. He served in the South Pacific, and earned two Bronze Stars.

On November 9, 1946, he was united in marriage to Miss Dolores MEYER. The young couple lived in Troy the first 7 years of their marriage and he operated a bulk milk route. They then moved to the Sugar Grove Community where they have since made their home.

Walter became an employee of the Mears Wood Heel plant ad worked with them as long as they were in Troy. At the time of his death he was employed at the J.V. Midwest Factory in Troy where he was a lathe operator.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion United Church of Christ at an early age.

Preceding Mr. TWELLMAN in death were his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores, of their residence; two daughters, Barbara Ann and her husband, Roger STANEK, of Hawk Point, and Margaret Ellen and her husband, Hibbard KOPP, of Troy; his two sons: Ronald LeRoy TWELLMAN and James Robert TWELLMAN, both of Troy; two grandchildren: Laurie Ann and Jeffrey Dean STANEK; one sister, Irene and her husband, Eddie B. HARDY, of Troy; three brothers: Fred H. TWELLMAN and his wife, Marie, of Mission Viejo, Calif., William E. TWELLMAN and his wife, Elsie, of Troy, and Alfred H. TWELLMAN and his wife, Mary Ruth, of Washington, Mo.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lora MEYER; his wife’s two sisters and brother: Lorraine and her husband, Fredrick GERDIMAN, Leona and her husband, the Rev. Bill WINTER, and John MEYER and his wife, Margaret, a number of nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Mr. TWELLMAN was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed his home and having his family with him. He had known for the past seven years that he had a health problem, but he lived day by day, making the most of each day. Those who knew and loved him will go through life appreciating the fine attributes of Mr. TWELLMAN.

Funeral services were conducted from the Zion United Church of Christ in Troy, by the pastor, the Rev. Dwight Borden, at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, November 18, 1975. The organist was Dr. Eugene Brockmann, and the soloist was Lester Schloemann.

Interment was in the Troy Evangelical Cemetery. Casket bearers were Charles LEPPER, Bob BOEHMER, William MYERS, Bill MCCOY, Joe TWELLMAN and Ralph WILLIAMS.

Arrangements were through the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home of Troy.
