Obituary for Sarah Jane Turnbull (1813-1908)
The Troy Free Press (Troy, Lincoln Co., MO) Friday Morning, July 3, 1908.
From the collection of Kent McMahan

Sarah Jane TURNBULL was born March 13, 1813, in St. Charles county, Mo., the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth SMITH. At the age of eight years with her parents she came to Old Alexandria, Lincoln county. At the age of 18 she was married to George W. TURNBULL. To this union eleven children were born - seven boys and four girls - all preceding her to the grave except Mrs. Cassie CREECH and Mrs. Nancy IRWIN. However, she lived to see the fourth generation, having 135 grandchildren, 147 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

In 1877 she professed faith in her Savior and united with the Baptist church at Highland and lived a consistent member until death, which occurred June 20, 1908, being at death 95 years, 3 month and 7 days old.

She was a faithful wife, loving mother and kind neighbor, ever ready to lend a helping hand to all who called on her.

Services were conducted at the Admire graveyard, where a multitude of relatives and friends gathered in the shady grove and listened to the sermon preached by Eld. J. S. Eames, assisted by Eld. E. W. Dorsey. There we laid her body by the side of her husband and other relatives to await the resurrection.

While the Lord was good to give us our mother so long, still we miss and pray the Lord to comfort all who mourn her loss. - A Daughter.
