OBITUARY-- GEORGE TILLOTSON

We are again called upon to chronicle the death of one of our best citizens, that of George TILLOTSON, of the Old Alexandria vicinity. He was the victim of a terrible auto accident in front of his home, the details of which have been given in county papers.

Mr. TILLOTSON was born December 16, 1855 in St. Louis, Mo., and was at the time of his death, 76 years, 8 months and 2 days old. His parents, Ezra and Elizabeth TILLOTSON, were born in England.

He was converted and joined the Old Alexandria Christian Church about 45 years ago under the ministry of Rev. William Frazier, who baptized him. This was always his church home.

In April 1880, he was married to Miss Willie Ann BRISCOE, of Lincoln County. To this union 12 children were born, 6 of them living: Mrs. Lewis TAYLOR, of Elsberry; Mrs. John BRICKER, of St. Charles; EZRA, of Elsberry; Mrs. Lewis CRUME, of Davis; Mrs. Vesper CREECH, of near Troy, and Mrs. Henry BECKMAN at home.

His wife died in August, 1918. Besides his children, he leaves by his passing 26 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a host of friends to regret his going. Brother TILLOTSON was one of our high-class citizens with a character of above reproach. No charges of "littleness" or unfair dealings were ever preferred against him.....

His funeral services were held from the home to the Old Alexandria M.E.Church Thursday, September 8, ( his death occurred September 5), conducted by the undersigned, a former pastor of his, assisted by Rev. John Golden, his present pastor....

His body was laid to rest beside his wife in the nearby cemetery to await the resurrection morn. Our sincere sympathy is hereby extended to this good family and to all who mourn his going --- M.D.Dudley
