Obituary for Susan B. Thomasson (1825-1896)
Uncited clipping.
From the papers of Mary Omahundro Hutt Walker

Mrs Susan B. THOMASSON died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jesse CRUME, near Elsberry Tuesday morning, Nov. 24th at 8 o'clock a.m. She had been a sufferer for about two years, but her last illness was of short duration as she was taken ill very suddenly last Sunday.
Mrs.THOMASSON was born near Old Alexandria in April 1825 and was 71 years and 7 months old. As she continuously lived in this county, it has in her death lost one of it's landmarks. She became a member of the Christian Church at Burroak under the pastorate of Jack Gentry, about 30 years ago and continued to be constant, conscientious and consistant member of that denomination until death called her to try the realities of another world. To use the words of Eld. T. A. Abbott, who conducted the funeral service at the Baptist Church in this city Wednesday at 11 a.m., "She had finished her life work, had lived her alotted three score and ten and was ready to enter realms above."
Her husband, Mon THOMASSON and one son, GUS, who was one of Winfield's first businessmen, being a member of the DePue Thomasson & Co., have preceeded her to her grave. Two sons, Albert W. of this place and James of St. Louis, and four daughters, Mrs. Jesse CRUME of Elsberry, Mrs. Bluff THORNHILL of Troy, Mrs. Henry MUTH and MRS. Richard TURNBULL of this place, quite a number of grand children, and numerous other relatives and friends are left to mourn her sad demise: Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved.
