Obituaries for Peter Stepanek (1859-1916)

The Troy Free Press, Troy, MO, 23 June, 1916, page 4, column 3.

Peter STEPANEK, a well-known miller of Friend, Neb., died at his home in that city Monday of last week. In speaking of his death the Sentinel of that place says: "Mr. STEPANEK appeared in good health Sunday and attended services as usual. Monday he went about his chores and after milking the cow came into the house and was immediately taken sick. Soon after the doctor arrived he revived, but in a few minutes, without any warning other than the drawing and darkening of the face, he passed away. Death was due to a hemorrhage of the brain, Mr. STEPANEK being sick only half an hour."
Mr. STEPANEK was well known in Lincoln county, and resided in the Mashek neighborhood up to about twenty years ago. He went from here to Modoc, Ind., thence to Friend, Neb., where he prospered as proprietor of the Acme flour mill and elevator. A sister, Mrs. Annie KUMBERA, of Troy, and two brothers, Joseph and Charles STEPANEK of near town, and the latter's wife, attended the funeral, which took place Wednesday following his death.

Obituary
Peter STEPANEK

It was in Troy, mo., where Peter STEPANEK was born on April 7, 1859. Forty years later he moved to Indiana where he lived until 1910 when he came to his home in Friend remaining here until his decease. He was married in November, 1885, to Ella J. STROTHER; he was the father of eight children one of whom died in early life.
About 1900, Mr. STEPANEK was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which he was a member when he died. He was a quiet but true religion [sic] and his faith in Christ domineered his life. In his home he was a loving and kind husband and father, the welfare of whose family was the one aim of his life. For a number of years he was a member of the Odd Fellow and Masonic Fraternities and sought ever to live up to the beautiful tenets of these orders.
Mr. Stepanek was never a rugged man but it was not his nature to complain. For a week he had not felt well but supposed it was a passing indisposition from which he would soon recover. On Monday morning, June 12, while in the pursuit of his duties, he was suddenly stricken and within an hour passed into the presence of his Maker. He is survived by his wife, two sons, five daughters, two grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, June 15, from the Congregational church and were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. H.C. SEIDEL, assisted by the Rev. H.H. PRICE. Interment was in the Andrew Cemetery. At the cemetery the services were in charge of the Masonic Lodge of Friend, who together with the Lodge of the Odd Fellows of Friend attended in a body.
