Obituary for Luda McMahan Shields (1875-1904)
Uncited clipping.

Sister Luda SHIELDS, wife of Bro. Malan SHIELDS, was born June 28, 1875, and died at her home March 5,1904. Another mother has gone, leaving a broken-hearted husband and four dear little children. Sad indeed it is to part with a wife and mother so young and in prime of life and woman hood, but how comforting to know that they are resting from their labors. Sister SHIELDS was fully aware of her approaching death, said she was ready to go and told her friends to have her buried at New Salem Church, where her body was laid away after the funeral services in the church to a large and sympathizing audience. Sister SHIELDS was much loved by all who knew her. Kind and gentle in manner, neat in her home, she was a good wife and an affectionate mother. She was converted and joined the Methodist Church when young and has ever lived faithful to her profession. We trust the afflicted will lean upon the strong arm of a loving Savior for comfort, for he that healeth the broken heart and drieth the orphan's tear is ever ready and willing to extend a helping hand in the hour of deepest grief. H.
