Wm. C. SHELTON died in Troy, Mo. Feb. 5, 1899 of heart failure, superintended by the grip, Wm. C. SHELTON being in his 71st year.
William Clairborne SHELTON was born in Pittsylvania County, Va., the 13th day of May, 1828.  He came to Lincoln co. in 1837 with his father and three brothers, only one of whom, Peachy G. SHELTON, survives him. He went to Cal. in 1849 with quite a company from this county he and S. R. WOOLFOLK, for a number of years, were the only suviving members. He remained in Cal. for only two years. The rest of his life has been spent in Lincoln County..............
----------His illness was brief, lasting but a week, and without warning.
Brief funeral services were held at the home of P. G. SHELTON Monday morning at 10:00 by Eld. E. G. Merrill, assisted by Eld. Wm. Frazier and Rev. C. W. Latham, after which the remains were bourne to the city cem., and there laid to rest.
