Obituary for Hazel Depping Schmidt (1908-1971)

            Hazel DEPPING SCHMIDT was born at Moscow Mills, Missouri December 28, 1908, the third child of William A. and Emma STEINMESCH DEPPING.  She spent her childhood in Moscow Mills and attended the public school there later graduating from Buchanan High School in Troy, Missouri.  She continued her education at Central Wesleyan College and Washington University, after which she did primary teaching in St. Louis County.

            In 1921 she became a member of the Evangelical Church, now the United Church of Christ, in Moscow Mills, through rite of Confirmation and there her membership remained.

            In August of 1934 Hazel was married to Harold W. SCHMIDT of Foristell, Missouri, and they became the parents of one child, Kay Irene.

            Hazel passed away Wednesday morning, March 24, 1971 at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.  She was 62 years, 2 months and 24 days of age at the time of her passing.

            Those preceding Hazel in death were her father, William A. DEPPING, in June of 1955; and her mother Emma DEPPING, in January of 1960.

            Those of her family who survive are her husband, Harold SCHMIDT; her daughter, Kay; her sister, Irene LANGFORD and her husband, A.C. LANGFORD of Wright City, Missouri; her sister, Mildred DEPPING of St. Louis, Missouri; her brother, Henry, of Washington, D.C.;  and her brother, Wesley and his wife, Edra of Moscow Mills, Missouri; her niece, Diana DEPPING HOXIE and her family, of Laurel, Maryland, her niece, Janet DEPPING RESNICK and her family of Church Falls, North Carolina and her niece, Laura DEPPING TURNBULL and her family of Columbia, Missouri; as well as other relatives and many, many friends.

            Funeral services for Mrs. SCHMIDT were conducted by Brother Steven Meyer at 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, March 26, 1971 from the Foristell Christian Church.  Interment was in the Linn Cemetery, Wentzville, Missouri.

            Casket bearers were Alvin EVERSMEYER, Victor HARRELL, Albert KERR, Don PITTS, Irvin SEATON and Omer WEBER.

            Arrangements were through the Pitman Funeral Home, Wentzville, Missouri.
