Joseph Rogers Funeral To Be Held Saturday

Joseph Wesley Rogers, 81, died in the St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles at 10 A.M. Tuesday, July 30, after having suffered a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church in Elsberry at 2 P.M. Saturday, August 3 with Rev. J. K. East and Rev. Alvin Tyler officiating.

Mr. Rogers was born January 9, 1876 in Rogersville, Tenn., and was a son of Thomas J. and Sarah Lawson Rogers. In September 1901 he was married to Bertha Damron, who survives him. Besides his wife he is also survived by 12 children. A son died in infancy. The surviving children are: Mrs. Myrtle Algermissen, St. Charles; Mrs. Sarah Blackwell, Eolia; Mrs. Beulah Vierling, St. Ann; Vernon, Elsberry; Raymond, St. Charles; Mrs. Bernice Waldvogel, St. Charles; Malcom, Tacoma, Wash.; Elmer, Winfield; Warren, O'Fallon; Mrs. Joseph Allen, Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. Delores DeRoy, Foley; Mrs. Ida Frances Rhoades, Elsberry. He also leaves a brother, William Rogers of California, who is enroute to attend the funeral. He leaves 50-odd grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Mr. Rogers suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital where he passed away about seven hours later. Mrs. Rogers underwent an operation in the St. Joseph Hospital last Monday and will be released from the hospital Saturday when the funeral will be held.

Mr. Rogers came to Missouri with his family from Tennessee in his early boyhood. He was a member of the Foley Baptist church and had followed

farming in the community all his life until retiring a number of years ago. He was well known in the community where he lived and had many friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services were in charge of Ricks Funeral Home, Elsberry.
