Allie T. Riffle Dies at Elsberry

ELSBERRY, Mo. –Funeral services for Allie Thurmon Riffle, 77, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, from the Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Interment will be in the Elsberry City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until the hour of services.

Mr. Riffle died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at his home in Elsberry.

He was born December 25, 1888, the son of Thomas and Mary Jane Herring Riffle. In 1917 he was married to Ethyl Damron, who survives.

Mr. Riffle was discharged from the United States Armed Forces because of a disability, having served prior to World War I from 1913 to 1915.

He is survived by his widow, and seven children, Rodney T. Riffle, Delmar Irvin Riffle, John R. Riffle and Mrs. Woodrow (Faye) Cox, all of Elsberry; Homer A. Riffle of New Hartford; Mrs. Eugene (Patricia) Stewart of Wellsville and Stephen Larry Riffle, who is in the United States Army, stationed in Korea, and is en route home for his father’s funeral.


Mr. Allie Riffle Succumbs at Age 77

Funeral services for Allie Thurman Riffle, 77, were held April 26 from the Ricks Funeral Home with the Rev. Tyler officiating. Burial was in the City Cemetery.

Mr. Riffle died April 23. He had been ill for about eight years with heart trouble.

He was born December 29, 1888 to Thomas and Mary Jane (Herring) Riffle. He was married on June 28, 1917 to Ethyl A. Davis Damron, who survives.

He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church as was a farmer.

Mr. Riffle was discharged from the United States Armed Forces because of a disability, having served prior to World War I from 1913 to 1915.

Other survivors include seven children, Rodney, John R. and Delmar Irvin Riffle of Elsberry, Homer A. Riffle of New Hartford; Mrs. Woodrow (Fae) Cox of Elsberry; Mrs. Eugene (Patricia) Stewart of Wellsville and Steven Larry Riffle who is in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea.


Contributor’s note: The year 1966 is handwritten on both obituaries and his wife’s obituary indicates he died on April 23, 1966. His birthday is listed as December 25 on one obituary and December 29 on the other. Allie Riffle’s middle name is also spelled differently on both obituaries. His wife’s obituaries indicate his middle name is spelled Thurmon.
