James Overton RICKS died Monday, Nov. 11, 1901, at 8 a.m., at his homestead with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Sterling Kimbrough, near Mackville, aged 82 years, 11months and 7 days, of complication of diseases.

Deceased was born Dec. 4, 1818 in Nelson co. Ky., and came with his parents, Thos. RICKS and wife to Mo., in the year 1828. They settled in St. Charles Co. but ten years later came to Lincoln co. In March, 1839, Mr. RICKS went to Ky. and married Miss Rachel HOBBS, who returned with him to Lincoln co. To this union were born 11 children, as follows: Martha Ann ( Mrs. T.B.MARTIN ); Thos.(now dead); Nancy ( Mrs. SONNER) ; James, of Ks.; Stephen, of Monroe Co.; Jane ( Mrs. J. Will NORTON ) of near Mackville; Adaline ( Mrs. Elias NORTON ) of near Hines; Mary, ( Mrs. MARTIN, now dead ); Overton, of Perry, Mo. Robert (now dead) and Maggie, ( Mrs. S. KIMBROUGH) of near Mackville.

Mr. Ricks professed his faith in the Savior in the spring of 1857 being baptized by Rev. R.S.Duncan, and joined the Sulphur lick Baptist Church, being a faithful member until his death..... Funeral services were held at the home near Mackville, Tues. morning at 11 am by Rev. J.S. Eames... Remains were conveyed to the Sulphur Lick burying grounds......

Notes: [Nelson Co. Ky. is where my Crenshaw line came from. I have a letter copied by a Crenshaw-Duey lady telling about the family stopping by Uncle Tom Ricks @ New Hope, Mo. (Lin. Co) and splitting rails to make money.]
