Died, at Hot Springs, Ark., June 23rd, 1884, Miss Elizabeth T. Reid. Aged 49 years.
The deceased was born and reared in Mt. Zion congregation, Mo. Early in life she gave herself to Christ, and carried her cross cheerfully and bravely unto the end. For sixteen years prior to her death she suffered greatly from acute rheumatism; for nine long years she was unable to walk. Yet through it all she maintained a spirit of meek and uncomplaining submission to the will of God. She was even able to say with the Psalmist, "It is good for me that I was afflicted." Being laid aside from the active concerns of life, she had the larger leisure for a more unbroken fellowship and a closer walk with God. She was induced to seek relief in the waters of Hot Springs. But before there was time to test their virtue she contracted malarial fever, and died after a short illness. She lived not in vain. Her mission in the world seems to have been to give visible proof of the sustaining grace of God in affliction.

Contributor's Note: Elizabeth T. Reid was born on November 8, 1834 in Lincoln County, the daughter of John Alexander Reid and Matilda Wallace. Her mother is listed among the founding members of the Mt. Zion A.R.P. congregation mentioned in the obituary. The inventory of the Reid Cemetery, where Elizabeth was buried, lists a death date of June 23 1883, one year earlier than listed in this obituary. I have not checked the grave stone to confirm that information. The obituary is by Rev. Frank Y. Pressly, the second pastor of the Mt. Zion congregation.
