Obituary for Reed Ernest Powelson (1895-1977)

Reed Ernest POWELSON was born August 28, 1895 in Lincoln County, Missouri, the son of Hanan and Victoria PARSONS POWELSON. He passed away in his home at Moscow Mills, Mo., Sunday afternoon, September 4, 1977. He was 82 years and 6 days of age.

On March 20, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Lulu Viola WEITKAMP. They became the parents of four children: two sons and two daughters.

Mr. POWELSON was baptized and confirmed in the Friedens Church of Moscow Mills.

Preceding Mr. POWELSON in death were five brothers: Charles, Joseph, William, Edward and John, and one sister, Janie CIYOU.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Viola of their home; his sons: Louis Hanan and his wife Pauline of St. Charles, William Ernest and his wife Margaret of Wentzville; two daughters: Carolyn Victoria and her husband William WERMUTH of Troy, and Lulu Vea and her husband Clarence HEITMAN of Hawk Point; 18 grandchildren; Bob WERMUTH and his wife Betty, Carl WERMUTH, Ruth Ann and her husband Edward BROWN, Janice and her husband John McGLASSON, Paul FEAGEN and his wife Loga, Billy, Donald, Doris, Barbara and Joan Ann HEITMAN, David, Mark, James, Steve and Carol POWELSON; ten great-grandchildren: Randy, Debbie, and Kerry FEAGEN, Richard and Douglas McGLASSON, Douglas and Matthew BROWN, Pat GENTRY and Mitzi and Keith DURDEN; and two great-great-grandchildren: Shane and Dana DURDEN; one sister, Mrs. Callie ALBERS of St. Louis; one brother, Walker POWELSON of Moscow Mills; his wife’s brother, Rob WEITKAMP of St. Louis; his wife’s sister, Lena and her husband Fred CAPPEL of Moscow Mills; his brother Charles; wife Nora of Evansville, Ill.; and his brother Joseph’s wife Oma of Elsberry; a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Mr. POWELSON was engaged in farming during all his working years. He was a member of the Moscow Mills A.F. & A.M., Local No.558, and this coming October, he would have received his 60 year pin from that organization.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1977, the Rev. Dwight Borden, from the Friedens United Church of Christ in Moscow Mills, officiating. Interment was in the Friedens Cemetery in Moscow Mills.
