Funeral services for Julius PONDER of Quincy, Ill., were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Kemper-Marsh Funeral Home in Troy, MO. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Troy.

Mr. PONDER, 80, formerly of Rockford, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

He was born July 29, 1918 in St. Louis, the son of Charles and Ella BOCKHORST PONDER.

Mr. PONDER grew up in Troy, Mo. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Rockford, Ill., in 1956, where he worked for Labor Local #312. He was employed by L.E. Meyers Co., in Villa Park, Ill., and with K-mart Corp., in Rockford. He retired in January, 1990 and moved to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He enjoyed his family and friends and animals.

He is survived by three daughters, Cynthia GALLEGOS and her husband, John of Tucson, Ariz., Carla WHITE-CARPENTER and husband, Paul, of Caledonia, Ill., and Christine PONDER-MARTINEZ of Rockford, Ill.; one stepson, David PORTER and wife, Tammy of Rockford; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carroll WATTS and husband, LeRoy of Troy, Mo.

A memorial has been established to G-PAC, 400 Heart Blvd., Loves Park, IL 61111.
