Obituary for Ella Ponder (1885-1985)

Mrs. Ella PONDER, widely known Troy resident, passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Saturday evening, April 13, 1985. She had attained the age of 99 years, seven months and one day.

Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock April 16, from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Troy, conducted by the church pastor, Fr. James Flynn. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Troy. Casket bearers were Ronald WATTS, Robert WATTS, Gary HOFFMANN, Stephen WATTS, Michael HOFFMANN and Brian SCHNELLE. On Monday evening, the Christian Wake Service was held at the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home and was led by J.C. LENK.

Ella Christine PONDER was born in Warren County, September 12, 1885, the daughter of Henry and Emma HEDEMANN BOCKHORST. She was married Nov. 16, 1915 to Charles Carroll PONDER. Mr. PONDER passed away in May of 1956.

Mrs. PONDER is survived by one daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Carroll) WATTS of Troy, one son, J. C. PONDER of Rockford, Il., six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Elmer BOCKHORST of Troy, other relatives and a multitude of friends.

Mrs. PONDER assisted her husband in growing Gladiolus, and was a member of the Missouri Gladiolus Society. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and of the St. Ann Sodality. She was also a member of the Troy Garden Club.

After the passing of her husband, she assisted her daughter in the operation of Carroll’s Flower Shop. After retirement, she divided her time for a few years between the homes of her two children. However, the past few years she has made her home exclusively with Mr. and Mrs. WATTS.
