Obituary for James Pollard (1894-1974)

James Stanley POLLARD was born in the Chain of Rocks area of Lincoln County, Mo., Feb. 16, 1894, the son of Hampton and Ella MERSHON POLLARD. He passed away in the Rosedale Nursing home in Silex, Mo., March 18, 1974, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 2 days.

He was married in 1926 to the former Miss Agnes Lorene THORNHILL of Troy. They became the parents of two daughters.

Mr. POLLARD’s profession was barbering. During most of his working years he owned and operated his shop in Moscow Mills. For several years he worked as a foreman at the CCC camp in the Cuivre River State Park.

Preceding Mr. POLLARD in death was one sister, Mrs. Stella McMAHAN. He is survived by his devoted wife, Agnes; his two daughters, Ruby and her husband, Roger CHANDLER of Mesa, Arizona, and Marcella and her husband, Earl BLUM of O’Fallon, Mo., 9 grandchildren, one great granddaughter, one brother, Maurice POLLARD, of St. Charles; two sisters, Mrs. Waunita ROBINSON, of St. Charles and Mrs. Della Mae DEIGERS of Toledo, Ohio, nine nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mr. POLLARD had been a member of the New Galilee Christian Church since he was a young man. He was a member of the Moscow Mills AF &AM Lodge No. 558, and had received his 50-year pin from that lodge.

Mr. POLLARD was an unusually happy and friendly man. He always had something pleasant to say to everyone. He always noticed children, and many people today, can remember that as a child, Mr. POLLARD always had candy for them.

Mr. POLLARD had a lot of determination and kept active and busy as long as he could.

Not only will he be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, but by all his other relatives and innumerable friends.

Funeral services for Mr. POLLARD were conducted from the New Galilee Christian Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock by the pastor, the Rev. Donald V. Mast. Mrs. Mary Wortmann was the soloist and Mrs. Lois Marsh was the pianist.

Interment was in the Thornhill Cemetery. Casket bearers were members of the Moscow Mills Masonic Lodge and were Marion BOCKHORST, Hobart EPPARD, Roy GILBERT, Aaron LEDBETTER, Eddie LESTER and Jim WELLS.

Arrangements were through the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home of Troy, Mo.
