The Troy Free Press, Troy, MO, 11 May, 1917, page 4, column 3.

Mrs. Lena Nagle

Mrs. Lena NAGLE, nee NIEMEIER, was born near Hildesheim, Germany, March 12, 1844, and departed this life April 26, 1917, at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 14 days. In the fall of 1866 she came alone to America, landing in Baltimore, Md. From here she went to Kansas City, Mo., where she was married to F.W. MEYER in 1869. Soon after this they removed to a farm in the southern part of Lincoln county, Mo., near a place then called Eagle Fork. Here Mr. MEYER soon died leaving her with two little sons to care for.

In 1877 she was again married this time to Dedrich NAGLE. To this union were born two daughters. In 1888 Mr. NAGLE died leaving her to care for four children on a farm north of Troy, Mo. Here she resided with her children until the fall of 1901 when she with her youngest daughter retired to Troy. In the autumn of 1905 she went to St. Louis, Mo., where she spent the remainder of her life in her usually contented way with her daughter, Mrs. F.A. ENGELHARDT.

She is survived by one brother, two sisters in Germany, two sons, A. Chas. NIEMEIER, of Marshall, Mo., H. of St. Louis, Mo., and August F., of Davis, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. Henry HAGEMEIER, Jonesburg, Mo., and Mrs. F.A. ENGELHARDT, of St. Louis, Mo., and three grandchildren. [Note: three sons listed - typo?]

From early childhood she belonged to the Evangelical church. She was a very faithful member of the Evangelical church of Troy, Mo., from its beginning. After removing to St. Louis she became a member of St. Peters Evangelical church at 14th and Carr streets. When this church was moved she transferred her membership to Bethany Evangelical church, Red Bud and Rosalie avenues, St. Louis, Mo. As much as her strength permited she was to be seen in her place to take part in the song service and listen as God's word was expounded from the pulpit. She not only served the Master on Sunday, but walked in his paths of righteousness every day. Funeral services were held at 8 o'clock p.m., April 28, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.A. ENGELHARDT, 2313a Clark Ave., St. Louis, Mo. On Sunday, April 29, 1917, the remains were brought to South Troy, and from there to Sulphur Lick cemetery, where the body was laid beside her husband to await the call of the Master. --F.A.E.
