Wm. D. MOORE was born in Blount Co., Tn., near Knoxville, Jan. 25, 1808. He was md. to Miss Sarah HUTTON, Nov. 5th 1829. Of this union were seven children, two daughters and five sons. Of these Mrs. HOWELL died Feb. 1, 1862; J. Campbell MOORE Feb. 28, 1892, Joseph MOORE, Aug. 15, 1898. James MOORE of Price's Branch, Montgomery Co. and H. M. and W. S. MOORE and Mrs. E. W. South of Troy, still live.
In 1834, Mr. MOORE and family, with his parents, moved to Missouri and settled on the old homeplace about 1 and 1/2 miles west of town. This long, tiresome and in a measure perilious journey was made in wagons, the family reaching the new home on Saturday evening. One might think they had well earned a sabbath rest in the morrow. He became a member in the Presbyterian church. The same year his father, James MOORE, was made an elder in this church.
1853 he was chosen to this office and was held to the time of his death. Two sons after him have occupied this same honorable position; J. C. MOORE so chosen by his church in 1865 & H. M. MOORE in 1892. His grandson, Sheperd MOORE, now fills the same position in his own church in W. Va......
