RETIRED TROY BUSINESSMAN DIES

James Dallas MONTGOMERY, retired business man, died in the Lincoln County Hospital in Troy, early Thursday morning, July1, 1976. He was 81 years of age.

Funeral services for Mr. MONTGOMERY were set for 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, July 3rd from the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy with Rev. Ernest Swartz officiating and burial in the Troy City Cemetery. Mr. MONTGOMERY was born near Troy, Mo., August 27, 1894, the son of James and Sarah (Sally) DOWELL MONTGOMERY.

November 30, 1919 he was married to Miss Edna BIRKHEAD, who survives. He is also survived by one son, Dallas of Troy, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Daisy SMITH of Winfield, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many many friends.

Mr. MONTGOMERY was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Hattie MCCOY, Callie TAYLOR, Donnie BICKEL, Charles MONTGOMERY, Roscoe MONTGOMERY and Ruth TAYLOR.

Mr. MONTGOMERY was a veteran of WW I and was a member of the Troy American Legion Post No. 94. He was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church of Troy.

For many years he was a part of the business life of Troy. He was a barber for over 40 years, and owned a barber shop on Main Street in Troy. He retired 16 years ago. He lived his entire life in the Troy area.

Below is a son-in-law to Dallas Montongmery. He was md. to Pattie Montgomery. He was overcome by fumes in a gasoline tank / barrel. At the time if my memory serves me correctly. Montgomery Oil Company was owned the Montgomerys had Hill Top Shell Station old hwy 61, now South Lincoln Drive and Cap-Au- Gris Street in Troy.
