Obituary for Edward Miller (1918-2000)

Funeral services for Edward W. Miller, 81, of Silex, were held

at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in

Millwood with Father John Mayer officiating.  Music for the

service was provided by Debbie Mudd, organist; and Matt Zeiss,

who sang “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden”.  Burial was in  

the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

 

Mr. Miller died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the St. Luke’s

West Hospital in Chesterfield.

 

He was born Aug. 8, 1918 in Corso to John Herman and Hazel

Parks Miller.  He was married to Mary L. Heltzell Feb. 22, 1941. 

She preceded him in death Aug. 9, 1991.

 

Mr. Miller was a lifelong resident of the Silex area working

as a heavy equipment operator since 1936.  He was a member and

worked for the I. U. O. E.  Local Union  #513 in St. Louis as a

heavy equipment operator for 40 years.  He was a member of the

St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus

Council  #2009 of Millwood.

 

He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a

member of the VFW Post #5553 of Bowling Green.   He enjoyed

fishing, playing cards and his family.

 

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Bobby) Miller and wife Rita, of

Bowling Green, and Donald (Donnie) Miller and wife Ann of Silex,

five daughters, Eska Wink and husband Ralph of Gray, Maine, Carol

Zeiss and husband Mike of Silex, Mary Jane Quade and husband Lloy

of Silex, Jodie Dillman and husband Ron of St Charles and Kay

(Jackie) Monroe and husband Larry of Hawk Point, four foster children,

Don Ellinger of Botkins, Ohio, Judy Privett of Silex, Barbara Medina

of House Springs and Donnie DeVoto of Silex, two brothers,

Harold Miller of Battle Creek, Mi., and Dick Miller of Sarasota, Fla.,

19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob Miller, Herman Miller,

Ira Miller and Ben Miller, and two grandchildren, Sarah Quade and

Chase Myers.

 

Pallbearers were Zachary Miller, Clayton Miller, Matt Zeiss, Mike

Chandler, Brad Groff, Rich Hoffman, and Gregory Monroe.

 

Visitation was held from 2-9 p.m. at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home

in Silex with a scripture service at 7 p.m.
