Obituary for Lora Emelia Meyer (1905-1986)

Lora Emelia MEYER, of Moscow Mills, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday afternoon, April 5, 1986, at the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Mo. at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 7 days.

She was born September 27, 1905 at rural Moscow Mills, the second child of Michael and Ellen (BUENEMAN) BECK. She attended the elementary grades at the Crab Apple School near Moscow Mills. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Church (now Friedens U.C.C.) of Moscow Mills and remained a member during her lifetime.

On June 11, 1924 she was married to Henry Leonard MEYER and to this union were born three daughters and one son. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, on January 1, 1968;  a sister, Verlie BERGASCH in 1962 and a brother, Orval BECK in 1948. Also two sons-in-law, Walter TWELLMAN in 1975 and Melvin WEITKAMP in 1982.

Surviving are her children, Lorraine and her husband, Frederick GERDIMAN of Moscow Mills; Leona and her husband, Rev. William WINTER of Madison, Kansas; Dolores WEITKAMP of Wright City, Mo.; John E. MEYER and his wife, Margaret of Union, Mo. Also 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, one sister , Olive DEARING of Berkley, Michigan and two sisters-in-law, Pearlie MEYER of La Puente, Ca. and Norma BAUER, of Diamond City, Ar. Also nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

During her lifetime Mrs. MEYER enjoyed crocheting and hundreds of her afghans and dollies are being used by people throughout the world.

Visitation was held at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home in Troy, on Monday, April 7 after 3 p.m. Services were held at the McCoy-Blossom Chapel Tuesday morning, April 8, 1986 at 10:00 a.m. with burial in Friedens U.C.C. Cemetery, Moscow Mills, Mo. Rev. John W. RIGGS officiated.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Stanley GERDIMAN, Douglas GERDIMAN, Ronald TWELLMAN, James TWELLMAN, John L. MEYER, and Roy MEYER. Honorary pallbearers were nephews Harold BERGESCH and Marion (Buddy) BERGESCH.
