Masonic services for Henry W. METTE, of Moscow Mills, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy. Interment was in the Friedens/Anderson Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Mr. METTE, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

The son of Henry and Anna (THIELEMAN) METTE, he was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Hamburg, Mo. On Oct. 21, 1950, he married Betty Rae CHRISTOPHER who preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1987.

Also preceding him were his daughter, Maribeth METTE; two sisters, Mary BREMMER and Ivy KELCH; four brothers, Lee METTE, Kenneth METTE, Frank METTE and Louie METTE.

He is survived by one sister, Dora DAVIS of St. Louis; three brothers, Raymond METTE, Riverside, Calif., Donald METTE and wife, Ruby, of Lexington, Va. And Oscar METTE and wife, Louella, of Wentzville and a good friend, Jeanette MORALES of Belleville.

Mr. METTE grew up in the Busch Wildlife Area of St. Charles County. In 1941, he moved to Lincoln County were he was engaged in farming all his life. He was fond of hunting and was well-known as a "trader". He was a member of the Moscow Mills Lodge No. 558 A.F. & A.M.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 7 at the funeral home.
