Fred MEADE, long connected with business life of the Troy area, passed away at his home in Troy early Saturday morning, November 28, 1981, at the age of 80 years and 6 days.

Funeral services for Mr. MEADE were conducted from the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy Monday, November 30 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. The Rev. Benny Wilsey, pastor of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, Troy, was the minister and the organist was Mrs. Patti Phillips who played "Twilight On The Trail" and "Ave Maria".

Interment was in the Troy City Cemetery. Casket bearers were John BARBEE, Roger ADAMS, Jim WHALEN, Jay FLETCHER, Claude COX and Waldo BUCHANAN. Honorary casket bearers were Ray LAKE, Col. Allen S. WHITMER, Dr. Hayden FOSTER, Ed McGLAUGHLIN, Curt TAYLOR and Homer COX.

Mr. MEADE was born in Texas City, Ill., Nov. 22, 1901, the son of Albert and Ella Mae MEADE. He was married Dec. 1, 1963 to Mrs. Helen COX NICHOLS.

As a young man, Mr. MEADE became an employee of the Missouri Union Telephone Co. In 1932, he transferred from La Plata, Mo., to Troy. In 1942, he and Ollie AGNE purchased seven exchanges from Missouri Union and organized the Lincoln Telephone Co. In 1960 Continental Telephone Co., purchased the Lincoln Telephone Co. After selling his company he kept active in other business enterprises.

Mr. MEADE is survived by his wife, Helen of their residence; one daughter, Willa Mae and her husband, Leo FABING of Troy; one grandson, Timmie Joe GERAULT of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters: Mrs. Sarah MINTON of Dexter, Mo. and Marie and her husband, Jack BARROW of Boonville, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.

Two sisters: Margie MORRIS and Bessie BRADHAM and one brother, Archer MEADE, preceded him in death.

Mr. MEADE was a member of the Troy Rotary Club and a charter member of the Independent Telephone Pioneers Association.
