Obituary for Florence Edna Martin  (1894-1972)

            Florence Edna MARTIN was born September 9, 1894, on a farm near Moscow Mills, Mo., the daughter of Archie and Hulda Pinina HENDERSON SARTY.  She passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital in Troy, Mo., Wednesday evening, June 28, 1972, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 19 days.

            She grew up in the community in which she was born, and on November 3, 1915, she was united in marriage to Lewis MARTIN, a young farmer in their community.  The young couple established their home in the Moscow Mills community.  To this union, two daughters were born.

            Mrs. MARTIN was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her husband, Lewis MARTIN; her daughters: Retha and her husband, George BERGESCH, and Fay and her husband, Kenneth METTE, all of Moscow Mills; three grandchildren: Janice and her husband, Donald COX, O’Fallon, Mo., Stacy BERGESCH of Moscow Mills and Harold METTE and his wife, Ann, of Westland, Michigan; 4 great-grandchildren: Kemberly and Donna COX and Michael and Michaelle BERGESCH; one sister, Eva, and her husband, Amiel WEITKAMP of Moscow Mills, other relatives and many friends.

            Mrs. MARTIN had musical talent which she used well.  When she was only 8 years old, she played the pump organ for Sunday School and church at the Olive Branch Church, and later she was the musician for Moscow Mills Methodist Church, of which she was a member.  She also gave music lessons to young people in her community.

            Funeral services for Mrs. MARTIN were conducted in the Moscow Mills United Methodist Church by the pastor, the Rev. Lester Zacher, Friday, June 30, 1972.  Miss Cheri LaRue was the organist.

            Interment was in the Anderson Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.  Casket bearers were Clarence CAPPEL, Billy Bob CAPPEL, David HUMPHREY, Marion BOCKHORST, Ernst LEITMAN and Howard SIEVERT.
