Will Z. Long.

Though expected, when the news of the death of Prof. Will Z. Long was received here Sunday morning, there were many expressions of deep regret. From the notes read by Rev. C.A. Mitchell, at the funeral at Corner Stone church, near Whiteside, Monday afternoon, we take the following:
"William Z. Long, son of R.O. and Mary E. Long, was born June 9, 1869, died March 18, 1899; aged 29 years, 9 months and 9 days.
"He was born one mile east of Whiteside in Lincoln county; was the oldest of a family of five children. After receiving a district School education, he entered La Grange College in 1884 as a literary student, and graduated in 1890. In 1891 he was selected to the principalship of Taylor Academy, Campbellsville, Ky. After teaching a successful session there, he was chosen to the principalship of Pike College, at Bowling Green, Pike county, Mo. After three years of arduous labor, in which he built up an excellent school, he retired from the school room and took up the study and practice of law. While pursuing this course his health failed and he was compelled to seek a better climate. In June, 1897, he left this state and sought a place where he might regain his health, and has since lived in the states of Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, until finally the grim monster, who never slackens in his pursuit until he accomplishes his purposes, brought him to the conclusion that he must return home that he might spend one or two more days with loved ones, and then yield up his life. He reached his home just two weeks and one day before his death. He was converted and joined the Baptist church in La Grange in 1886, while there attending college. When he located in Bowling Green, he transferred his membership to the Baptist church at that place. When he moved to St. Louis he again transferred his membership to the Third church, St. Louis, from where he has been transferred from the church militant to the church triumphant."
His funeral took place at Corner Stone church in the presence of a large assembly. Eld. W.A. Bibb, of Bowling Green, preached the funeral after which his remains were laid to rest in the church graveyard by the side of his mother and three brothers, who had preceded him. He was buried with Masonic honors, he being a member of Phoenix Lodge, no. 136. - Bowling Green Times.
