Obituary for Mary Vivian Hill (1893-1980)

Mary Vivian HILL was born near Moscow Mills, Mo., January 22, 1893, one of the seven children of Thompson and Leona Delene CARTER. She passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Mo., late Tuesday night, March 18, 1980. She had attained the age of 87 years, 1 month and 26 days.

Mrs. HILL grew to young womanhood in the community in which she was born. On September 22, 1912, she was united in marriage to Edgar HILL. They made their home near Moscow Mills. Five children were born to this happy union.

Mrs. HILL was preceded in death by her husband Edgar, who passed away in 1970, and one daughter, Loretta THOMAS, who passed away in 1974. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sister: Hopson CARTER, Tom CARTER, Bland CARTER, Eugene CARTER, John CARTER, and Lucille TURNBULL.

Surviving Mrs. HILL are her children: Leona Geneva and her husband, Orville HUTTON of Troy; George E. HILL and his wife, Irene of Jefferson City, Mo.; James E. HILL and his wife, Dorothy of Washington, Mo., and Harold H. HILL and his wife Mary of Wentzville, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Helen ANDERSON of Moscow Mills; her daughter Loretta’s husband, Bill THOMAS of St. Louis; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; one great great granchild; and several nieces and nephews and their families; other relatives and many, many friends.

Mrs. HILL was a member of the Moscow Mills United Methodist Church, and attended faithfully as long as she could. She was also a charter member of the Owen-Olive Extension Club, and was among the few remaining charter members of the older established extension clubs in Lincoln County.

After Mr. HILL’s passing, Mrs. HILL continued to live on her farm until she found suitable housing in Troy. She was living in Troy when she moved into the Lincoln County Manor. She lived in the Manor untill entering the hospital.

Mrs. HILL was a lady who found joy in her family and her home. She was always pleasant and very friendly. She and her family participated in the community affairs and were excellent neighbors.

Mr. And Mrs. HILL reared a fine family, and they and their children and their children’s families enjoyed a close, happy and warm relationship.

Mrs HILL lived many productive years on this earth. Now she has claimed her well earned reward. Her family and friends take consolation in that fact, but will miss this one who has meant so much to each of them.

Funeral services for Mrs. HILL were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Tom SANDERS, of the Moscow Mills United Methodist Church, at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, March 21 from the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy. Casket bearers were David HARDT, Steve NIXON, Bob HILL, James Orville HUTTON, Allen COTTLE, and David HILL.
