Obituary for Edith Harrell (1899-1987)

Mrs. Edith Irene HARRELL passed away at the DePaul Hospital, Bridgeton on March 27, 1987. She attained the age of 87 years, two months and 27 days.

She was born on December 30, 1899 in Lincoln County, the daughter of Jake and Katie LESTER THORNHILL. Her early years were spent in Lincoln County and on July 22, 1917, she was united in marriage to Ira HARRELL. To this union three children were born: one daughter: Mildred and two sons: Jack and Lowell HARRELL. Surviving are: her daughter: Mildred BRAY and her husband Charles of St. Louis, sons: Jack Lowell HARRELL of rural Troy, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great, great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were: beloved husband, Ira, her parents and an infant brother.

Mrs. HARRELL resided in Lincoln County throughout her entire lifetime with the exception of the last few years, when she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in St. Louis. She was a devoted housewife and mother and was well respected by her many friends and neighbors. Mrs. HARRELL enjoyed being outdoors taking care of her flowers and garden.

Mrs. Edith Irene HARRELL will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors who knew her warm smile and radiant personality.

Visitation was held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday until time of services at the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 30 at the McCoy & Blossom Chapel. Interment followed in the Thornhill Cemetery, Troy. Officiating was the Rev. Lester Zacher. The organist was Mrs. Marguerite Schemmer who accompanied Mrs. Barbara Lampley as she sang "The Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden".

Serving as casket bearers were: Headley HARRELL, Shelby THORNHILL, Paul DUDLEY, Tom HARRELL, Clint HARRELL and Jack HOPKINS.

In memory of Mrs. HARRELL, contributions may be made to the Thornhill Cemetery Association.

The HARRELL family was served by the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home of Troy.
