ERSKINE GOODLETT HAMMOND was born near Troy, Mo., Aug.11, 1844. Died at Dalhart, Texas Oct.19, 1912, making his age 68 years, 2 months and 8 days. He was married to Matilda YOUNG of Bardstown, Ky., on Aug. 25, 1864. To this union nine children were born only two of whom are living, Miss Mollie and Clair.

Bro HAMMOND professed religion and united with the Troy Baptist Church in the year 1890. He made his home in and near Troy and engaged in various lines of business until about four years ago when he sold his beautiful home and moved to the southern part of the state. Remaining only a short time he went to Clayton, N. Mex. in search of a more suitable climate to his weakened condition in health, which had been poor for a number of years. The immediate suffering was heart failure, which brought the peaceful end last Saturday morning.

The body was brought to Troy October 22nd, and accompanied by Miss Luvina HAMMOND of Bardstown, Ky. and taken to the home of Mr. Chas. MARTIN, where funeral services were conducted by the writer at 2 p.m. The interrment was in the city cemetery. There was a large gathering of friends to honor the memory of a good neighbor and a good citizen. May God's blessing be upon the aged wife, the son and a daughter and other relatives and friends. -O. A. Gordon 1912
