Obituary for Charles Headley Groshong (1891-1960)

Charles Headley GROSHONG, son of Lota Louis GROSHONG and Elizabeth MCCOY GROSHONG, was born July 24, 1891, and departed this life on November 10, 1960, at 3:15 a.m. at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 17 days.

On October 31, 1914, he was united in marriage to Vera WEEKS. To this union six children were born all of whom are living. Mr. and Mrs. GROSHONG lived on a farm near Briscoe, Mo., until 1939, when they moved to a farm near Winfield and later in town.

At an early age, Mr. GROSHONG dedicated his life to God through the church and after moving to Winfield transferred his membership from Auburn to the Winfield Methodist Church where he remained until his death.

Mr. GROSHONG had been in failng health for a number of years and three weeks ago was taken to the St. Joseph's Hospital at St. Charles for care and treatment and remained there until death came.

He was preceeded in death by an infant sister and by his parents some years ago. A sister, Edna, (Mrs. Alfred MOZIER) passed away in 1952. He leaves to mourn his departure: his loving wife; his children, Helen (Mrs. Carl WILP), of Winfield, Edith (Mrs. Elmer CHAMBERS ), of Anderson, Calif.; Charles of Truxton; Doris of Winfield; Alberta (Mrs. Delbert MEADOWS), of Winfield, and Alvin of Winfield; three sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and one grand-daughter, Carol WILP. Also he leaves four brothers, Clarence, of Winfield, Vincel, of Troy, Claude of Winfield, and Ernest, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eight nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be sadly missed in the home and by all who knew him.
