Obituary for Colby Gladney (1888-1938)

Funeral services were conducted May 19th, in the Mount Zion A. R. Presbyterian Church, Okete, over the remains of Colby GLADNEY, a resident of that vicinity, who met a tragic death Tuesday night, May 17. Services were conducted by his pastor, J. Calvin Smith. Interment was made in the old GLADNEY cemetery, where rest the remains of his parents and many other relatives.

COLBY GLADNEY, son of CHARLES GLADNEY and MARY VILLETA ADMIRE-GLADNEY, was born on the old Gladney homestead, better known as the Gladney Ponds farm near Okete, February 2, 1888, and at his death had reached the age of 50 years, 3 months and 15 days . His father died a number of years ago and his mother passed to her reward about five years ago. Following his mother's death he continued to live in the home they had shared, south of Okete, carrying on as nearly as possible as his mother had done. He was known as an upright citizen, a loyal member of mount Zion church and a reliable neighbor. His mother lived to see him ordained as a deacon in the church in which he had been reared, and faithful in his official duties. .......

There are left to mourn his departure one sister, Mrs. J. H. RANEY, of Winfield, and one brother, Sidney GLADNEY, of Okete vicinity; four nephews and three nieces, as follows: Charles Sidney GLADNEY, Forrest Leroy GLADNEY, William GLADNEY, and Charles Gladney RANEY, Mrs. Tilden RANSDAL, Mrs. Ray KLEPPE, and Ruby Grace GLADNEY; also three aunts, Mrs. Nettie BUTLER, of Clarksville; Mrs. Clara BLACKMAN, of Parma, and Mrs. Lizzie GEISER, of Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. GLADNEY'S body was taken to the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. J. H. RANEY, in Winfield and a brief service was held before the service in the church..
