Obituary for John N. Gilbert (1907-1981)

John Nestor GILBERT was born Nov. 24, 1907 at West Plains, Mo., the son of John Wesley and Almeda HULL GILBERT. He passed away Feb. 27, 1981 at University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia, Mo. at the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

On November 1, 1926 he was united in marriage to Edna Alvina BRINKMANN. To this union three children were born; Roy, Melvin, and a son who died in infancy.

Mr. GILBERT retired from McDonnell-Douglas in 1972, having worked there for 26 years. He enjoyed working with wood, fishing, and was a favorite with his family, friends, and neighbors. All who knew and loved him feel a real loss.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Edna, of 54 years; two sons, Melvin Wesley and Roy Kermit; daughters-in-law, Marlene GILBERT and Mary Jane GILBERT, all of Moscow Mills; five grandchildren: Melvin GILBERT Jr. and wife Magdelana of California, Aleta GILBERT BROYLES and husband Kenneth, Roy Kermit GILBERT Jr., Pamela Sue GILBERT and John Joseph GILBERT, all of Moscow Mills: two great-grandchildren: Jason Wayne BROYLES, Moscow Mills and Crystal Marie GILBERT of South Gate, California; four sisters: Edna YUST, St. Charles, Erma CONKLIN, St. Louis, Arleen BROWN, Wentzville and Ruby CATO and husband, Jay Lee of Electra, Texas; two brothers: Sam GILBERT and wife, Mildred of Tiger, Georgia and Roger GILBERT and wife, Loretta, Columbia; one sister-in-law, Hilda ENGEL, St. Charles; one brother-in-law, Ed Brinkman, St. Charles; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 1, at 2:00 p.m. at the McCoy-Paul Funeral Home, Troy, with Pastors Allen C. Minor and Reva Minor officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery in St. Charles.

Pallbearers were Maurice BRINKMAN, Norman NOAH, Wayne GILBERT, Dennis GILBERT, Bill GILBERT, and Kermit BRINKMAN.

Mrs. C. Robert Hall was the organist, with Mrs. Barbara Lampley as soloist.
