EDWIN FREESE DEAD

Man Injured in Auto Accident Four Weeks Ago Dies

Edwin FREESE, of Old Monroe died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles, Saturday, from concussion of the brain, suffered in an automobile accident Saturday, Nov. 22. An operation was performed about ten days ago in an effort to save the man’s life, but it was of no avail.

The auto accident, it will be remembered, occurred about eight o’clock in the evening of Nov. 22, as FREESE, William UNFER, Benjamin PARSONS and Louie MEYER, of Winfield and Old Monroe vicinity were starting home from a business trip to St. Charles. As they started to cross the Wabash tracks at O’Fallon, the light plant building so obscured their vision that they did not see a Wabash passenger train on the crossing and ran headlong into it.

The tender struck the front of the car turning it around, and the passenger coach struck the rear of it, almost totally demolishing it.

Ben PARSONS and William UNFER were also hurt in the collision but not seriously, and MEYER, the driver escaped without a scratch.

FREESE was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George FREESE, of Old Monroe, was a young man and the only child at home with his parents. Funeral services were conducted at Old Monroe Monday, and interment was at that place.
