John T. ELSTON was born near Winfield, Mo., Oct. 26, 1842, and passed away Feb. 6, 1919, the home of Cal MADEN, his son-in-law, with whom he made his home for the past few months. He was married to Miss Lucy Edmons (should be Edmona j.g.) ADMIRE Dec. 27, 1866. To this union eight children were born, seven daughters and one son. His wife and 3 daughters preceeded him in death. He leaves to mourn this loss of a father, Mrs. Alfred MEADOWS, Mrs. Frank OVERALL, Mrs. Floyd CANNON, James ELSTON, all of near Winfield, Mrs. Thomas JACKSON, of St. Louis.

Member of New Salem Baptist Church since 1861

Was a member of the New Salem Lodge # 270 since March 3, 1877.

Two brothers, Frank and Willett, and two sisters, Mrs. Annie MEADOWS and Mrs. Allie PRICE, six sons-in-laws and 20 grandchildren and a host of friends are bereaved in his going.

Funeral was at New Salem Saturday at 11 o'clock, February 8, 1919. His remains rest beside those of his wife in New Salem Cemetery. Psalm 37:37______O.A.Gordon.


Mrs. John T. ELSTON Lucy Edmona ADMIRE was born Nov. 24, 1843 and departed this life Nov. 28, 1914, her age being 71 years & 4 days. She was married to John T. ELSTON Dec 27, 1866 and to this union were born nine children. Two died in infancy and 6 daughters and one son, besides her husband, survive her. The names of the children are Mrs. Cal MADEN (Fay j.g.) James Albert, Mrs. A. MEADOWS, Mrs. James SKINNER, Mrs. F.M. OVERALL, Mrs. Floyd CANNON, all of Winfield, and Mrs. Thos. JACKSON of St. Louis.

Sister ELSTON united with the New Salem Baptist church in 1860 under the preaching of Rev.Wm LUCK.......She was blessed with good health all her life until about the first of the year 1914, when she began to evince symptoms of heart disease...... The funeral service was at New Salem Church at 11o'clock Monday Nov. 30, and the burial was in the cemetery at that place.......O.A.GORDON.
