Obituary for Mary Betty Dodson (1856-1942)

Mary Betty DODSON, second child of the late Isaac Newton and Martha Ricks FIELDER, was born July 20, 1856 in Pike Co. Mo. She passed away Dec. 19, 1942 in the Harmony Grove neighborhood where she had spent her entire life. 

On April 20, 1887, she was united in marriage to James S. WALLACE. Two children blessed this home, namely Mattie, now Mrs. George FINNERTY, and Elsie, now Mrs. Otis HARRELL, both of this vicinity. Mr. WALLACE passed away May 14, 1910. On March 25, 1914, she was married to Jeremiah DODSON, whom she leaves to morn her passing .

In additon to her daughters and husband she had a foster daughter, Mrs. Henry REEVES with 3 grandchildren to remember her love and kindness. She never made any public profession of her faith but favored the Baptist denomination, demonstrating her religion by the kindness to those with whom she lived and served, being a faithful wife, a loving mother and a good neighbor.

During the lifetime of Mr. WALLACE, she was a mother to two motherless girls, now Mrs. Margaret WRAY and Mrs. Mary WHITE, who lived in the home a number of years.

She leaves to mourn her going, besides her immediate family, 3 sisters, Mrs. Lou KNOX of Winfield, Mrs. Ella CREECH of Wellsville and Mrs. Lillie TAYLOR of Snow Hill; 2 brothers, Dick FIELDER of Winfield and Mack FIELDER of Troy; two step-brothers, Albert RICKS of Winfield and Walter RICKS of Portland, Ore., also many other relatives and friends. Burial was at Harmony Grove cemetery following the service which was conducted at the home by Rev. Joseph of Winfield.
