Obituary for Mrs. Mary J. Crume (1871-1906)
The Troy Free Press, (Troy, Lincoln Co., MO), 1906.
From the papers of Mary Omahundro Hutt Walker

MRS. MARY J. CRUME was born, June 1871; died Mar. 20, 1906, at 6 o'clock, just as the sun came over the eastern horizon. A wave of sadness was cast over our community, when the news went out that she was dead. She was the wife of Louis CRUME and daughter of Samuel A. HARRELL and wife. She had been a great sufferer of that dread disease consumption for two years or more, but bore her affliction with a patience born of a faith in God. Mary was a woman of beautiful character, possessed of every virtue which adorns the life of a true and noble daughter, a faithful and affectionate wife, a kind and gracious friend and neighbor. Who can fill her place here or in the church, where she had given almost half of her life in the service of the Master? But she is not dead; she is only sleeping. She rests from all her labors, and her works will follow her.

To the grief stricken husband, father, mother, sister and brother and to the many relatives and friends, we would say, "weep not as those who have no hope. God alone holds the pinion on which hangs the scales to measure the value of her life. The garden and all it contains is the Father's." If He desires to pluck the fairest flowers, why should we say withhold thy hand? All feared that her end would come with great discomfort, but "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints," and He released her spirit gently and softly from this earthly tabernacle. Funeral services wre conducted Thursday afternoon at Asberry (Asbury j.g.) church by her pastor, Rev. E. M. Akers. After which the reamins were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. May we all be ready to answer God's call and meet loved ones in Heaven, God's voice, not ours be heard. E.P.D.
