Obituary for Helena Carolina Cappel (1898-1985)

Helena Carolina CAPPEL’s long and useful life on this earth came to a close Thursday morning August 1, 1985 in Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Mo., closing a life span of 86 years, 8 months and 8 days.

She was born in Lincoln County, Mo., November 23, 1898, the daughter of Theodore Louis and Caroline Helena HACKMAN WEITKAMP.

She grew up in her home community and was educated in her local schools.

On March 24, 1920 she became the wife of Frederick William CAPPEL. This young couple became the parents of two sons.

Mr. CAPPEL passed away July 2, 1982. A brother, Robert WEITKAMP, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. CAPPEL is survived by her sons, James CAPPEL and his wife, Pearl of St. Louis and Paul CAPPEL and his wife, Melba of Troy; five grandchildren: Barbara and her husband, John MAZZOLA, Cheryl and her husband, Paul ROHAN, Jane CAPPEL, Debra CAPPEL and Dennis CAPPEL; seven great-grandchildren: Angela, John, Stephan and James MAZZOLA, Christopher, Becky, and Jennifer ROHAN, her sister, Mrs. Viola POWELSON of Moscow Mills, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Juanita CAPPEL of Troy and Mrs. Maxine CAPPEL of St. Louis, her husband’s sister, Lucille and her husband, Louis HILL of Hawk Point, her husband’s brother-in-law, Jesse HARRELL of Moscow Mills, other relatives and many, many friends.

Mrs. CAPPEL was baptized and confirmed in the Friedens United Church of Christ of Moscow Mills.

She manifested her christianity in every phase of her life. She and her family were responsible residents of their community, participating in community activities and helping their neighbors.

Quite some time ago, Mrs. CAPPEL began to lose her health, and eventually became a resident of the Medicalodge of Troy.

She was lovingly cared for and visited faithfully by her family and many friends. She very quietly bore her illness, and never complained.

Funeral services for Mrs. CAPPEL were held at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, August 3, 1985 from the Friedens United Church of Christ in Moscow Mills, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Allen C. Minor. Mrs. Wencker Meyer was the organist.

Interment was in Friedens Cemetery, Moscow Mills, Mo. Casket bearers were Miller BRAUNGARDT, Ben DREISEWERD, Harry VOEPEL, Harold BERGESCH, Buddy BERGESCH and Harold HILL.

Visitation was at the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy.
