Obituary for Perry Everett Brown (1905-1989)

The Rev. Perry E. BROWN, son of Jesse N. and Daisy L. ANDREWS BROWN was born near Bushnell, Illinois on September 20, 1905. In 1910, the family moved to a farm four miles south of Troy, Mo. where they lived for many years.

Rev. BROWN attended Buchanan High School in Troy, Union College in Bourbonville, Kentucky and Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. Upon returning to Missouri, he was united in marriage to Miss Elsie E. BUENEMAN.

Shortly after their marriage Rev. BROWN entered the field of Evangelism, conducting revival meetings in a tent. His message was well received, and after two years in evangelism, he received a call to pastor the Pilgrim – now Wesleyan – Church in Springfield, Mo. After pastoring this church for five years, he accepted a call to pastor the Wesleyan Church of Hannibal where he served for seven years.

Leaving Hannibal, he and his wife moved to a new home near Moscow Mills, Mo. While living there, they were called to pastor the Highland Prairie Union Church at Ethlyn, Mo. in December of 1975. They served that congregation until 1988. In 1980, they moved from Moscow Mills to their present home four miles south of Troy, where Mrs. BROWN continues to reside.

Rev. BROWN passed away quietly on the evening of August 26, 1989 at the Wentzville Health Care Center in Wentzville.

Rev. BROWN was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Glenn BROWN.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie, of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Sue and her husband, David SMASHEY of St. Charles, Rachel Anne and her husband, William GOERING of McPherson, Kansas and Glenda BROWN of Wright City; two sons, Paul Robert of Quincy, Illinois and Perry E. BROWN, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Kathleen BROWN of Kansas City, Ks. And Charlotte and her husband ………..of Columbus, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jay Glenn BROWN of Littleton, Colorado, and a brother-in-law Ernie BUENEMAN and his wife, Alberta of Troy, Mo.

He is survived by eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 29, 1989 at Kemper Marsh Funeral Chapel by Rev. Marvin Braungardt of Festus, Mo., Rev. and Mrs. Eldon Kirks sang and accompanied by Mrs. Marquerite Schemmer. The pallbearers were Marvin BUENEMAN, Fred GERDIMAN, Harvey MARTIN, Leroy EVERSMEYER, Glenn ONEY, and Lester KNIPMEYER. Burial was in Zoar Cemetery.
