Obituary for Clara Marie Bockhorst (1891-1981)

Clara Marie BOCKHORST was born January 10, 1891 in Warren County, Mo., the daughter of Henry Diedrich C. and Emma Wilmena HEDEMAN BOCKHORST. She passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Mo., Tuesday morning, October 20, 1981 at the age of 90 years, 9months, and 10 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Amos BOCKHORST and Walter BOCKHORST; two sisters: Ida Emmandean and Alma; one nephew, Walter BOCKHORST, Jr. and an infant niece.

Miss Clara is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ella PONDER; two brothers: Julius and Elmer BOCKHORST; Elmer’s wife, Margaret and Walter’s wife, Floy, all of Troy; 12 nieces and nephews; a number of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many, many friends.

After finishing her education locally, Miss BOCKHORST went to Chicago, where she attended and graduated from the Moody Bible Institute. She lived and worked in Chicago for many years. After she returned to Troy, she made her home with her brother Julius until she entered the Winfield Boarding Home a few months ago.

She was an excellent cook and graduated from a cooking school. Her hobby was collecting recipes.

Miss BOCKHORST was a member of the First Christian Church of Troy. Her life was dedicated to Christian work. She devoted her life to helping and giving to other people, but asked nothing for herself.

She was privileged to live a long and usefull life, and her loved ones will long remember her loving and giving ways.

The Rev. Kendale D. Finley, pastor of the First Christian Church of Troy, conducted services for Miss BOCKHORST at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, October 20, from the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home. Interment was in the Wright City Cemetery. Casket bearers were nephews: William, Lee HARRIS, Mike, Sam, Marion, and J.E. BOCKHORST.
