OBITUARY

Everett Lemuel Barnes second son of Mathias and Isabel Barnes, was born May 26, 1904 at Troy, Mo. and departed this life on May 18, 1953 at the age of 48 years, 11 months and 22 days at his home west of New Hope.

He was reared to young manhood around Davis and was engaged in successful farming. He moved to the New Hope community in 1940 and spent his entire life in Lincoln County. One of his greatest joys was serving others and being with his two small grandsons.

He was united in marriage to Pauline Damron in 1920 and to this union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy.

He united with the New Hope Baptist church in 1931 during the pastorate of Rev. L. Lynn, where he remained a member until his death.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his devoted companion, three daughters, Doris, now Mrs. Derwood Gibson of Troy; Hazel Mae, now Mrs. Charles McKay of Hannibal; and Shirley of the home; also two sons-in-law; two grandsons Kenneth and Bobby Gibson; his aged mother, Mrs. Isabel Barnes of Troy, one brother Allen, and one half-brother Howard, both of Troy. There are three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Worsley, of near Davis; Mrs. Elsie Harding, of near Elsberry, and Mrs. Donnie Brown, of St. Louis in addition to one uncle, four aunts, a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends. His father, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Old Alexandria Methodist church on Wednesday afternoon, May 20, with Rev. W.E. Flathbush, of DeSota and Rev. Edward Mitchell, pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, officiating. He was laid to rest in the church cemetery.

He will be sadly missed in the home and community and will long be remembered by all.--Contributed.
