Jacob O ALLEN was born July 31, 1824 in Culpepper county Va. He was married Oct 14, 1947, to Miss Anne E. JONES of the same county in Virginia. To this union five children were born. Three are now living. His wife died Dec 22, 1856 at Louisiana, Mo. He was married again to Sarah Amanda CURTIS, also of Virginia, in the year 1857. Of the second marriage four children were born, only two of whom - Mrs Annie BITTICK, of St Louis, and Mrs. Sallie HUSTON, of Troy, are living. Bro. Allen had been making his home since the death of his wife, March 19, 1903, at Mrs Huston's in Troy. He was converted and joined the Baptist church at the age of seventeen and all during 67 years of Chrisitan profession he lived a life of marked faithfulness. His children can not remember that he ever ate a meal at his own table without giving thanks to God. He was never too busy when living on the farm to attend his church meetings. Afer coming to Troy, his sight being bad, he would attend church, getting some one to lead him, so faithful was he.

He quietly passed away Tuesday morning January 18, 1909. Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. funeral services were conducted at the church, after which he was laid to rest in the city cemetery according to the rites of the Masonic fraternity, of which he was member. A useful life, a peaceful death, a glorious resurrection. The triumphs of Christian life.
