Old Morris Cemetery

NOTE:  This is the same "Old Morris Cemetery"  which appears in Gone But Not Forgotten, Vol. III.


Location:  1/2 mile south & 1/4 mile west of the junction of county K & Hwy 61, near Briscoe.   The Broyles Cemetery is visible from Hwy K, on the right side of the road.  The Morris Cemetery is 1200 feet south of the Broyles Cemetery, in a wooded area.  Take Hwy 61 North.  Turn left onto Hwy K.  Turn left on Stone Wall Drive.  At the end of Stone Wall Drive is a court.  Cemetery entrance is at the end of the court.  300 ft SW of electric pole.

NOTE:  A man by the name of Morris, who lived near Auburn, Missouri,  donated the land for this cemetery.

     Married A.H. East 9/2/1841.  
     “Her sickness sore with patience bore, Physicians tried in vain,

     her pain”.

     Husband of:   1) Levisa M. Downing.
                   2) Mollie J. Wells (married 6/25/1887).
                   3) Annie Marie Broyles (married 8/1/1894). 
     Marker reads:  D.W. Morris.
     Elizabeth MORRIS - b: Dec. 17, 1858; d: Nov. 24, 1922
     Daughter of Israel Morris and Cary Ann Wommack.
     Elizabeth never married.
           Hannah MORRIS - b: Apr. 9, 1771; d: Sept. 23, 1853     82y 5m 14d.
           Wife of Israel Morris Sr. married: 12/23/1790,  nee Burdine.
           Daughter of James and Mary Bodine.   

           Israel MORRIS Sr. - b: June 2, 1764; d: May 7, 1851
           Husband of Hannah Burdine. 
           Aged 86y 9m 5d.
     Israel MORRIS Jr. – b: May 26, 1837; d: Oct. 11, 1883  46y 5m 16d.
     Husband of Cary Ann Wommack.                                           
     Son of Jonah Morris and Jane Pack.
     Jane MORRIS - b: July 27, 1800; d: Feb. 25, 1869   67y 6m 28d.
