50th Wedding Aniversary

Mr. and Mrs. James PORTER very quietly observed their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday, February 8, at their home. They received a number of lovely gifts, cards and calls from their friends in this and other communities. In the issue of February 10, 1905, the news heralding the event of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. PORTER reads as follows: "Mr. James PORTER and Miss Floy THURMAN, two of Troy's most popular and deserving young people, were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. THURMAN, Wednesday evening, Feb 8, 1905, Rev. D. E. Mellichamp officiating. The wedding was a quiet home affair, only the immediate families of the bride and groom being present. The day following the ceremony, the young couple went to housekeeping in the groom's home opposite the court house. The event was not unexpected to our people, and we are sure that all who know the happy couple will join us in wishing them a long life full of happiness and never a cloud to disturb or annoy."
